LESTER HENDERSON

Lester Merriam Henderson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Henderson, was born in Story City, July 28, 1898. He passed away at Colfax Monday morning, April 4, 1949, at the age of 50 years, 8 months and 6 days, death being caused by acute dilation of the heart.

Lester grew to manhood in the Story City community. He was baptized and confirmed in the St. Petri church, of which he was a member throughout the years. he graduated from the Story City high school in 1916.

With the exception of five years spent at colleges in Red Wing and Grinnell, he lived his entire life in Story City. He served the community as a mortician and furniture dealer, and for three terms was mayor of the city.

He was united in marriage to Jeanette Donhowe on June 22nd, 1922. Four children were born to this union: Gloria (Mrs. Arthur Richardson), Lester Jr., Donald Henry, and Carolyn Ruth, all of whom survive him, as do his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Alexander Henderson, and two sisters: Mrs. John H. Goessele of Winnetka, Ill., and Mrs. Beatrice H. Moen of Onawa, and one granddaughter, Susan Richardson.
