MRS. BERT (EMMA) HILL
Funeral services for Mrs. Emma A. Hill, 90, Story City, were held at St. Petri Lutheran Church, Thursday, March 15 at 1 p.m., with pastor Rolfe S. Johnstad and pastor Perry V. Sampson officiating. Pastor Johnstad was accompanied by Mrs. Warren Johnson, organist, when he sang.
Burial was in the Story City Municipal Cemetery. Casket bearers were Bervine Anderson, LuVern Anderson, Eugene Hanson, Lester Johnson, Jr., Noble Partlow and Ervin Wassman.
Emma A. Hill was born June 24, 1888, to parents Soren and Martha (Olson) Anderson, on the Anderson farm, four miles south of Story City on Highway 69, and passed away at Mary Greeley Hospital, Ames, of an apparent heart attack, on Monday afternoon, March 12.
Emma had lived all her life in the Story City Community. She attended the Musland country school and the South St. Petri Lutheran Church. In 1911 she moved to Story City with her parents, her mother was born at Kinherre, Presteskjeld, Norway and her father at Landemandsverk, Stord, Norway.
She was employed at Iowa State College prior to her marriage. On November 30, 1915 she was united in marriage to Bert S. Hill, also of Story City, at her parental home, by pastor Henry Solum. They moved into their home at 319 Park Avenue in Story City shere she resided for 63 years.
She was a charter member of the Story City Federated Woman's Club, a lifelong member of St. Petri Lutheran Church and its ALCW, the Story City Sons of Norway, and the neighborhood Good Will club.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death by her husband, Bert, who passed away on November 22, 1956; also by her parents, and two sisters and eight brothers. They were: Mary Hanson, 102 years, Story City; Clara Anderson of Santa Monica, Calif.; Martin Anderson, Jackson, Minn.; Abe Anderson, St. James, Minn.; Carl Anderson and Carl's twin, Ormsby, Minn.; Peter Anderson, Severt Anderson, Bert Anderson and Edward Anderson, all of Story City.
She is survived by her two sons: Charles W. and Harris S. Hill; a grandson, Paul Hill, all of Story City; one granddaughter, Mrs. William (Karen) Schonenberger, Des Moines; and one great-granddaughter, Kristen; also twenty-five nieces and nephews.
