Pfc. William Quam Killed in Action September 25

Roland,-Oct. 31--Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Quam received word Sunday of the death of a second son in action, Pfc. William Quam who was killed in action in France on Sept. 26.

Pfc. Quam was in the Infantry and had been overseas but a few weeks.

He was born west of Roland and was a graduate of the Roland schools.

Surviving are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Quam of Roland, three brothers, Verne of Burlington, Reuben of Lawler, and Pfc. Walter Quam, who is over seas; five sisters, Mrs. Laura Maroney of Nevada, Esther McLeod of Hawarden, Wilma Hill of Richmond, Calif., Avis Robinson of Marshalltown and Annabelle Davis at home.

Another son of Mr. and Mrs. Quam, David Quam, also of the Infantry was killed in action a few months ago.

Pfc. William Quam was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Quam. The family will be extended much sympathy in the loss, for a second time, of a son and brother.

Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Quam of Roland received word from the War Department Sunday that their son, Pfc. William Quam, had been killed in action in France September 25. They had received word two weeks ago that he was missing.

Pfc. Quam, an infantryman, was 19 years of age. He was born on a farm west of Roland and graduated from the Roland high school a year ago. He was inducted into the Army the first of the year, and had been overseas but a few weeks.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Quam, Roland; three brothers, Verne of Burlington, Reuben of Lawler, and Pfc. Walter Quam, who is overseas; five sisters, Mrs. Laura Maroney of Nevada, Esther McLeod of Hawarden, Wilma Hill of Richmond, Calif., Avis Robinson of Marshalltown and Annabelle Davis, who is at home.

Pfc. William Quam was the youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Quam. The lost another son, David Quam, also in the infantry, who was killed in action in July.

The whole community extends heartfelt sympathy to the family in their double bereavement.
