William King Died Monday

(From the Collins Gazette, May 2, 1940)Wm. W. King of Nevada, old-time resident of Collins, died at Iowa sanitarium Monday evening at 7:30, the victim of an automobile accident which occurred at Nevada Sunday evening about 6:30.
Mrs. Martha King, wife of the deceased, is still in the hospital suffering from a broken pelvis, fractured ribs and other serious injuries.
Funeral rites were held Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at the Bishop Funeral home with the Rev. C. E. Lookingbill in charge. Committal services were in charge of Central Iowa Lodge No. 104, I.O.O.F., of which Mr. King was a longtime member. interment was at Nevada.
Born in southern Illinois 80 years ago Sept. 9, William W. his parents when a small boy and lived in this county practically all of his life, and had been a resident of Nevada since 1921.
After his first marriage, he farmed in the southeastern part of the county for many years.
The first wife passed away and he later married Mrs. Martha Shearer. There were born to Mr. King and his second wife two sons, Thomas E. King of Etna, Penn., and F.G. “Jerry” King of Nevada.
Retiring from the farm, Mr. King located in Collins, where he spent some years in business and later served as city marshal and had charge of the town waterworks system.
He was appointed deputy sheriff Jan. 1, 1921.
Through his various activities Mr. King had formed a wide range of acquaintances in the county and had many friends.
Those surviving from his first marriage are Nellie Morrison of York, Nebr., Grace Vasey of Collins, Gladys Pollard of Long Beach, Calif., Betty Davis of Los Angeles, Calif., Maude Wilmington of Colorado and John W. King of St. Louis, Mo.
There are two sons from his second marriage, Thomas f. King of Etna, Penn., and F. G. “Jerry” King of Nevada.
Step-sons and step-daughters are Alta G. Melin of Stratford, Addie Carnahan of Reasnor, Ia.; Ora Miller of Perry; James Shearer of Waterloo; Charles O. Shearer of Nevada and Fred A. Shearer of Tama. There are also a number of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
One brother, Ed King, lives in Des Moines, and sisters are Mrs. J. W. Dickinson of Colo and Mrs. William Ozmun of Independence.
