Brayton "Big Guy" was born in Ames on July 29, 2005 and lived in Nevada. He had a love for fire trucks and all things Lego and it would be odd to find him without some nearby. Brayton loved to ride his bike and snowmobiles, as well as watch the History Channel. But, one of his favorite pastimes was truly just hanging out with his family. Brayton bravely fought leukemia and by doing so, inspired all who knew him. He taught all to not sweat the small stuff, to fight for what you want and need, and to never give up. Brayton's witty banter and spunky personality that he kept throughout his battle will be remembered forever.
He is survived by his parents Stephen and Malynda (Mindy) Shill; siblings Brady, Benton, and Adisyn Shill all of Nevada; paternal grandparents Everett and DeLaine Shill of Clear Lake; paternal grandmother Connie Hand of Nevada; maternal grandparents Vail and Sandy Olson of Nevada; great grandmother Dorothy Thompson of Nevada; maternal aunts and uncles Teri (Don) Thompson of McCallsburg, Dave (Lisa) Olson of Omaha, Chad Olson of Nevada, and Lynete (Richard) Neal of West Des Moines; paternal aunts and uncles Brian (Stephanie) Crosser of Clear Lake, Tim (Sara) Shill of Nevada, Robin (Mike) Doty of Nevada, Brad (Jodie) Crosser of Clear Lake, Ashley (Dave) McDermid of Manchester, and many cousins.
Brayton was preceded in death by maternal great-grandparents Maynard and Vivian Olson and Robert Thompson, paternal great-grandparents Harold and Marjorie Baker, Wesley and Verla Shill, and great-uncle Marley Olson.A memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Brayton.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Brayton and his family.
