Joel Edward Johnson, age 55, passed away on November 25, 2012.

Joel was born on October 7, 1957 to Harold and Virginia (Dertley) Johnson in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He grew up in Havelock, Iowa and graduated from Iowa State University. Joel married Patricia Anne Love, December 20, 1980 in Ames, Iowa. He worked as a mail handler for the US Postal Service in Des Moines.

Joel is survived by: his wife of 31 years, Patricia; children: Daniel (Michelle) Johnson and son Rowan of Iowa City; David (Elizabeth) and their children Brody, Asher and Lilah of Fort Leonard Wood, MO; Deborah Johnson of Norwalk; Deanna (James) Laugerman of Iowa City; and Darren Johnson (finacee Sarah Tully) of Cedar Falls, Adam Johnson, of Ames and Alex Johnson of Story City; two sisters Jan (Matt) Gordon of Gainesville, FL and Julie (Tim) Cavanaugh of Denver, CO; and two brothers Jay Johnson of Mesa, AZ and Jeff (Wendy) Johnson of Des Moines.
Preceded in death by his parents.

Joel loved children. He had seven of his own and four grandchildren at the time of his passing. He had hoped to love more children through adoption had he survived longer.
