Alice B. Stephens

BORN: November 3, 1929
DIED: November 18, 2012
LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

Alice B. Stephens was born November 3, 1929 in Oakland, IA to William Grover and Minnie Vea (Hough) Hays. She graduated from Oakland High School in 1947. She worked for the Oakland telephone company until her marriage to William R. (Dick) Stephens on November 3, 1956. They lived there until 1959 and then moved to Farragut 1959-1965, Harlan 1965-1970, Slater 1970-1982, and Ames.
She worked for the telephone company in Farragut, the Holiday Inn Motel and Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames until her retirement in 1995. Alice enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, sewing, reading, and working word search puzzles. She developed an interest in her computer and it became a portal for remaining connected to family and friends.

She was a member of First United Methodist Church, American Legion Auxiliary, and a life member of the VFW Auxiliary.

In the last 4 months of her life, Alice was lovingly cared for by her daughter Lori.

Alice died Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames at 83 years of age.

Alice is survived by her son, Craig and wife, Shiela, of Des Moines, daughter, Lori Stephens, of Ames; grandchildren, Mike, Kyle, Molly, Lucas, Caitlin, Lizzy, Alyssa, and Jenny; four great grandchildren; two great great grandchildren; sisters, Beulah Johnson, Ames, IA and Mary Jane Core, Glendale, AZ; sister-in-law, Linda Stephens, Yorkville, IL; brother-in-law, Tim McEvoy, Missouri Valley, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Dick, son, Kevin, parents, sisters, Thelma Sick and Dorothy McEvoy; and brothers, Harold and Elwood Hays.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts received by the family will be given in memory of Alice to her favorite charities.
