From Nevada Representative October 4, 1882
Mrs. Barbara McCord, mother of D. H. McCord of this city, died in Marshalltown, at the home of her son Geo. B. McCord, last Friday night. Her funeral services were conducted by the Rev. C. J> Adams in the Universalist church at Marshalltown last Sunday afternoon. Mrs. McCord was a woman of remarkable force of character and of long and varied experience. She was born in 1798 and has been an interested observer of and participator in, the wonderful history of our country throughout the whole of the present century. She was the mother of thirteen children and often cared with motherly regard, for those not her own. She was a woman of wide information, broad sympathies, and up to the closing days of her life took an abiding interest in the current affairs of the times. She had reached that great age when death comes as a natural event and is not to be deeply mourned. While her children and friends therefore may not deeply mourn her passing away they may consign her worn out body to mother earth with the solemn satisfaction that she was one worthy of their love and veneration.
