From Fredregill Family Funeral Home obituary, Story County, Iowa:
Pauline Eddy, 95, of Story City and formerly of Zearing, passed away on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at Bethany Manor Nursing Home in Story City. Visitation will be on Sunday, November 4, 2012 from 5-7 p.m. at Fredregill Funeral Home in Zearing. Funeral services will be on Monday, November 5, 2012 at the McCallsburg Presbyterian Church at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Tom Poppe officiating. Burial will immediately follow her services at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Rural Zearing.
Pauline Ione McNamar Eddy was born on Thanksgiving Day, November 29, 1916 in Mt. Sterling, Iowa. Pauline was the daughter of Paul Raymond and Beatrice Augusta (Reck) McNamar and was an older sister to Dorothy Ruth who was born in 1919.
Pauline’s father was a railroad depot agent so the family moved several times during Pauline’s childhood. Most years were spent in Given, Iowa, before the family moved to Garden City during Pauline’s senior year in high school. She graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1934.
Pauline attended beauty school in Des Moines and upon completion, opened Polly’s Beauty Shop in the hotel in McCallsburg. She attended the McCallsburg Presbyterian Church with her family and there met Herbert Eddy. Pauline and Herbert were married at the parsonage in Nevada on January 4, 1941 and moved to their new home just south of the Eddy homestead. A few years later they moved to the Eddy century farm. The couple lived there until Herb’s death on December 17, 1998. Pauline then lived in the McCallsburg Senior Apartments, Timberland Village, and Bethany Manor.
Polly, as most everyone knew her, was a long-time member of the McCallsburg Presbyterian Church. She was a Sunday School teacher for many years and was organist for the church for over 60 years. Polly also owned the McCallsburg Variety Store where she faithfully served the McCallsburg community offering many, many items to customers of all ages. Her husband Herb was her partner and they both enjoyed the customers they served. Polly was happiest when visiting with friends and relatives and entertaining her children and grandchildren. She and Herb always had the coffee pot on and enjoyed having people stop by for a visit. She taught everyone she could to play Skip-Bo so she would always have someone to play a game with her.
Polly was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 57 years, Herbert; her sister Dorothy and brother-in-law, Earl Hanson; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in law, Russell and Eliza Eddy and Leroy and Yvonne Eddy.
Polly leaves her daughters Beverly (Ted) Meier of Nevada and Sharon (Dennis) Ulrich of Rippey and her grandchildren Erin (Brett) Lewis of Polk City, Matthew (Megan) Ulrich of Woodward, and Andrew Ulrich of Des Moines. Great-grandma Polly was loved by Cambrie and Reid Lewis and Evelyn Ulrich. Lynn Eddy of Richmond, Virginia is Polly’s niece and Brian (Stacy) Eddy of Alexandria, Virginia is her nephew.
