Alice Mathre, daughter of Lars and Martha Mathre, was born in Kendall County, Ill., Sept 7, 1864. She passed away at her home in Story City Dec. 28, 1948, at the age of 84 years, 3 months and 21 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the North Prairie Lutheran church near Helmar, Ill., in which vicinity she received her public education and grew to womanhood.

On Feb 14, 1888, she was united in marriage to Bryner K. Lund, who was engaged in hamring near Northwood, Ia., where they made their home for four years. While at Northwood, a son, Lawrence, was born.

In 1892 she moved with her family from Northwood to Stanhope, where they purchased a farm on which they made their home for 27 years. Three more children were born in their Stanhope home. She and her family were all members of the St. Paul church while living there.

In 1919 she moved with her husband and children to Story City, where the family became members of the Immanuel church. She was actively interested in the work of the church until the later years of her life, when both health and strength failed her.

She was preceded in death by her husbanc, Bryner K. Lund, and her son, Arthur Lund.

Surviving her are a son, Lawrence of Story City; Ida Isakson, Chicago; Mabel, Story City; and a foster daughter, Alice Smith, of Minneapolis; one brother, Martin Mathre, Denver, Colo.; 6 grandchildren, Donald Lund, Shipton Mallet, England; Harvey Lund of Chicago, Margaret and Marjorie Lund of Des Moines; Laurentia Lund and Walter Lund, Story City.
