DIED: September 17, 2012
LOCATION: San Bernardino, California

Phyllis Nina McDowell Williams, 92, of Oceanside, California, died September 17, 2012. She was born in Ames on April 14, 1920 to John and Lucille McDowell. After completing high school in Ames she attended Britt Junior College and taught in a rural school house in Kanawha, IA. She married Donald Williams of Britt shortly before the beginning of WWII. Her husband enlisted in the Army Air Corps and later made the Air Force his career.

As is typical for military families, Phyllis followed her husband in his transfers to various parts of the country as both a homemaker and employed in civil service. She and her husband retired in San Bernardino, CA. In 2005 she moved to Oceanside, CA to be closer to her daughter.

She is survived by her daughter Sharon Williams (Louis) Hall; grandchildren Gregory Hall and Walter (Christie) Hall; twin great-granddaughters Cora and Lily Hall; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister, and two brothers.
