Carroll Gene Ficken
August 22, 1939 - September 1, 2012C. G. "Butch" Ficken, 73 of Nevada died on Saturday, September 1, 2012 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, September 5 at the Memorial Lutheran Church, 701 11th Street in Nevada with Pastor David R. Burling officiating. Burial will follow in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Butch was born on August 22, 1939 in Marshalltown to Gerhard William and Genevieve (Spencer) Ficken, the oldest of five children. He was a 1956 graduate of the Rhodes Consolidated School. Butch served in the U. S. Army as an Aircraft Engineer Mechanic. On November 3, 1990, he married Joyce D. Dietrich in Ames. Butch was employed by Ames Computer Forms from 1990 to 2009. He loved being with his grandchildren, enjoyed woodworking, and was an avid Iowa Hawkeyes fan.
Butch is survived by his wife Joyce of Nevada; a son Michael Ficken of Georgia; a daughter JoLene (Dan) Messerli of Nevada; two step-daughters Jodie (Mark) Holzmer of Nevada and Stacey (Luke) Larson of Ames; 8 grandchildren Jenifer, Tanner, and Peyton Messerli, Kelsee Holzmer, and Levi Larson; a brother Gary W. (Barbara) Ficken of Parkville, MO; and a sister Marilyn (Bill) Purdy of Melbourne.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, a brother James and an infant sister Wilma.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 4 with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. again at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in loving memory of Butch for the Israel Family Hospice House or the Bliss Cancer Center.
Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Butch and his family.
