In Memory of
Kenneth Eldred Lee
April 7, 1914 - August 10, 2012Former Ames resident Kenneth Eldred Lee, 98, passed away August 10, 2012 at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.
Kenneth was born April 7, 1914, in Radcliffe, Iowa to Nels and Minnie (Elwick) Lee. He had three sisters and two brothers. In 1931 Kenneth graduated from Radcliffe High school and began working as a carpenter. A veteran of World War II, he served with the Persian Gulf Command in Iran for three and a half years. In 1947, Kenneth married Mary Dorothy Meyer at St. Mathews Catholic Church in Clare, Iowa. They had two sons, Mike and Mark. In 1953, the Lee family moved to Ames.
Kenneth was a life-long carpenter and a proud member of the Central Iowa Carpenters Union. In 1978 Kenneth and Dorothy retired to Branson, Missouri where he could pursue his passion for fishing. He and Dorothy were married for fifty-five years until Dorothy passed away in 2003. Kenneth moved to the Iowa Veterans Home in January of 2009 where he enjoyed his stay and received excellent care.
Kenneth is survived by his two sons and their spouses, Mike and Jeani Lee of Ames, IA, Mark and Paula Lee of Evergreen, CO; four grandchildren, Jackie Lee Donabed, Jennifer Lee, Claire Lee Varrelmann, and John Lee; and one great-grandchild, Frances Varrelmann.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Lee; parents Minnie and Nels Lee; sisters, Anna Lee, Myrtle Nelson, and Mildred Smith; and brothers, Lester Lee and Reuben Lee.
Memorial services will be at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Ames, Iowa on Friday, August 17, 1012 at 11:00 AM with inurnment of cremated remains with full military honors to follow at Ames Municipal Cemetery.
