THE STORY CITY HERALD, Story City, Story County, Iowa, Wednesday, April 6, 2011.

Lawrence H. Clough, 88 of Story City, formerly of Manson, died on Saturday, March 26, 2011, at Bethany Manor at Story City. Funeral services were held on Tuesday, March 29 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Church of Christ - Congregational in Manson with visitation at the church one hour prior to the service. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery in Manson. Larson-Weishaar Funeral Home in Manson is in charge of arrangements.

Lawrence Herman Clough was born at home on July 11, 1922, to Herman and Ruth (Siverly) Clough at Clearfield, Iowa. He graduated from Zion Consolidated High School at Orient, Iowa in 1940. After graduation he worked at Douglas Aircraft in Santa Monica, California, working on airplanes for World War II. In March of 1946, he moved to Somers, Iowa and started farming with, his parents.

Lawrence was united in mrriage to Donna Ruebel at Barnum, Iowa on June 10, 1951. They farmed near Dayton, Iowa until moving to Manson. Lawrence and Donna had four children, Sheryl (Larry) Borcherding of Hampton; Paula (Steve) Heimbruch of Story City; David (Ranae) Clough of Manson; and John (Nancy) Clough of Nevada.

Farming was always his love, second to his wife, Donna. He loved to tell jokes, driving John Deere tractors and fishing at Leech Lake, Minnesota. Donna and Lawrence wintered in Texas for 13 years and made many great friends. He served on the Farmers Coop Elevator Board as well as the Pocahontas Conservation Board for 29 years. He was also a member of the United Church of Christ at Manson where he served on various boards. He and Donna retired from farming in 1986 and moved into Manson in 1993. He moved to Bethany Manor in Story City in 2005 where he was a resident until his death.

Survivors include his wife, Donna; his four children; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; his brother Marvin (Arlene) Clough of Clare, Iowa; brother-in-law Gene (Pauline) Ruebel; as well as six nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, infant twin sisters, grandson Jonathon M. Heimbruch, nephew Lanny Clough and niece Diane Clough.
