Miriam Sharp, age 86, of Story City, passed away the morning of January 21, 2011 in Port Aransas, Texas. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. April 2, 2011 in the Community Room at Timberland Village in Story City. Burial of her cremated remains will be at Lawn Hill Cemetery in Stanhope, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Timberland Village and the Roland-Story Baseball Program. The family will receive friends an hour prior to service time and during the luncheon that follows the service. Becker Funeral and Cremation Service of Jewell is caring for Miriam and her family.

Miriam Stedman was born August 1, 1924 in Emmetsburg, Iowa to Charles and Hortense (Bintner) Stedman. After graduating from high school, she began her working life in the mailroom of McDonald Douglas Aircraft in Los Angeles, California. There she met Henry (Hank) Sharp, they were married 53 years when Hank died April 19, 2001. After the war, they moved to Ruthven, Iowa where Miriam worked as a telephone operator and ran a restaurant with Hank for a time. They lived in Sac City where she worked for Noble Manufacturing until the family moved to Stanhope. She worked at the post office there and became Postmaster when Bill Parker retired. She loved the human contact with all her clientele in this small community. She retired as Postmaster in 1989.

Miriam moved to Timberland Village in Story City due to failing health. There she met Bernie Kadolph, they were married July 18, 2010 and were wintering in Texas at the time of her death. Despite a long work history, she felt her greatest achievements were the rich relationships she gained with her husbands, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, family and friends.

Those who knew Miriam appreciated her humor, warmth, and love of life. She loved a joke, a party or a church service. And just sharing a cup of coffee or tea with her brightened the day of all she touched. She will be greatly missed by family and friends alike.

Miriam is survived by her husband, Bernard Kadolph of Story City; a son, Larry Sharp of Madison, Wisconsin; her daughter, Cherie (Marlin) Hill of Ellsworth; grandchildren, David Sharp of St. Francis, Wisconsin, Amy (Douglas) Brinker of Granger, Christopher (Brandi) Hill of Story City; and three great-grand children, celebrated by the entire family, Jackson Douglas Brinker, Madison Cherie Brinker, and Hunter Henry Hill. Those youngsters were the center of her life. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Hank; and a sister, Janann Olson.
