Gary Harlan Severson, age 73, a former Ellsworth resident, passed away Saturday, January 28, 2012 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Memorial services were held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 1, 2012 at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Burial will be at a later date. A visitation of family and friends was held one hour prior to services Wednesday morning at the funeral home.

Gary Severson was born July 21, 1938, to Harlan and Arlyne (Satre) Severson in Ellsworth. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ellsworth. Gary graduated from Ellsworth High School in 1956. He entered the U.S. Army in 1957 and retired in 1984. Gary received the Bronze Star in April of 1971. After his retirement he resided on the Severson farm north of Ellsworth. A few years ago he moved to Story City and the last few years has lived at Timberland Village.

Gary is survived by his sister, Jean (Raymond) Schmitz of Hawthorn Woods, Illinois; his uncle and aunts, Cliff and Margaret Satre, Alice Satre; and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents
