Thelma Maxine Weeks
June 7, 1919 - July 17, 2011

Thelma M. Weeks, 92 of Nevada passed away on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. Funeral services will be at the First United Methodist Church in Nevada on Friday, July 22, 2011 at 10 a.m. with Pastor Kevin Leveck officiating. Visitation will begin at 9 a.m. at the church prior to her funeral service. Casual dress attire is requested to be worn for the services.

Thelma Maxine Weeks was born on June 07, 1919 on the family farm south of Nevada, Iowa to Newton and Erma (Reitz) Frey. She attended Shipley High School. On March 24, 1937 when Thelma married Forrest Weeks and they began farming. Forrest and Thelma farmed near Cambridge, Collins, and Nevada. She was a very active participant in the farm operations, even driving the tractor to work the land. Later, Thelma worked outside of the home and was employed by Western Auto in Nevada and Younkers in Ames, where she retired from. She was a lifelong citizen of Story County.

Thelma was very active in her younger years and was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Nevada, Indian Creek Country Club, many various bridge groups, she belonged a 500 group with eight couples in 1949, Know Your Neighbors, and Yours and Mine. She had a great love for playing golf, gardening, playing cards, sewing, quilting, knitting, and baking.

Those left to cherish Thelma's loving memories are her children; Mary Jo (Karman) Kellogg of Nevada, and Milo Ray (Marie) Weeks of The Woodlands, TX; 4 grandchildren, Stephanie (Shawn) Ellingson, Stacey (Jayson) Kingsbury, Barbara (Kent) Sites, and Scott (Colleen) Weeks; 6 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; Jim(Velda) Weeks; Helen Porter; Elsie Taylor; and many nieces and nephews.

Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; infant sister; and two sisters, Helen (Bud) Lange, and Reba (Sandy) Gilchrist.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be directed to; First United Methodist Church; Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Association; or Israel Family Hospice House.

Chet Ryan Mortuary in Nevada has been entrusted with the care of Thelma and her family.
