Loran Eugene Mohr
December 22, 1929 - September 17, 2011

Loran E. Mohr age 81, of Ames, died Saturday, September 17, of lung cancer at Mary Greeley Medical Center in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday Sept 21, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way with a Celebration of Life Memorial Service 1:30 p.m. Thursday, at Bethesda Lutheran Church 1517 Northwestern Ave. in Ames. Inurnment will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Loran was born December 22, 1929 in Preston, Iowa the son of Albert H. and Kathryn (Ketelsen) Mohr. After graduating from UNI with a degree in Math and Physical Education, he married Thelma Meyer June 9, 1951 in Holland, Iowa. Loran enlisted in the US Army for the Korean Conflict and after receiving an honorable discharge, returned to college, graduating from ISU with a BS in Industrial Engineering and went to work for Viking Pump Company in Cedar Falls. In 1963, Loran returned to ISU where he received an MS in Industrial Engineering, taught and led the departmental cooperative education program. He retired from ISU in 1989 and was named a Professor Emeritus of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering.

He was a member of the Bethesda Lutheran Church in Ames and attended Trinity Lutheran Church in Cass Lake Minnesota. He was also a member of Order of The Knoll and life member of American Legion Post # 37of Ames. Loran enjoyed teaching, ISU Athletics and spending time with family in Ames and in Minnesota on Leech and Cass Lakes. He was and always will be a hero to both his sons.

Loran is survived by his wife Thelma of Ames; sons, Jeff (Linda) Mohr of Roland, and Dan (Celeste) Mohr of Tucson, AZ; five grandsons, Larry (Maddy) and Jesse Mohr and Alex, Skyler, and Randy Freeman; six great grandchildren, Elisiah, Nolan, Emma, McKenna, Addison, and Jackson; a sister, Kathleen Boehde of Clinton; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold; a sister, Lois; three nieces and two nephews.
