Charles LaVerne Sampson
September 7, 1927 - February 23, 2012

Charles LaVerne Sampson age 84, of Ames died February 23, at Israel Family Hospice House. A gathering of friends and family visitation will be 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 26, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way with a celebration of life funeral service at 10:30 am Monday, Feb 27, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care with burial in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Charles was born September 07, 1927 in Ames the son of Chris & Lenora (Nielsen) Sampson. Charles enlisted in the US Army and completed his GED while serving his country. Charles was united in marriage to Doris Ballard in Ames on January 01, 1946.

Charles & Doris lived in Ames and he was self employed in auto-body work until his retirement in 2010. Charles was in the Army Reserve and enjoyed bowling. Charles was a member at Bethesda Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his daughter Susan (Dan) Kepley of Ames, grandchildren Staci and Mark Nichols of Waukee, Derek and Dawn Kepley of Ames, Devon Kepley of Ames, Joseph and Kelly Sampson of Waverly, Megan and Jacob Smith of St. Paul, MN and Mark Sampson of Iowa City; and seven great-grandchildren.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Doris in 1999; and his son Steven and seven siblings.

Memorials may be given in memory to Bethesda Lutheran Church or Israel Family Hospice House.
