CHARLES A TURNER, 91
Charles A. Turner 91, a resident of the Iowa Veterans Home, died Thursday evening, May 5, 1988. Graveside services will be Saturday at 3pm at the Colo Cemetery with the Rev. Glen Taylor officiating. Friends may call at Pursel-Davis Funeral Home after 5 pm Friday.
He was born March 4, 1897, in Stuttgart, AR, the son of Lyman and Mary Pike Turner. He was married to Hazel Ayers in Colo, Iowa, on Oct 8, 1924, and she preceded him in death in 1972. He is survived by four daughters: Jennie Lewis, Castle Rock, CO; Mable Morris, Maxwell, IA; Katherine (Mrs. Cecil) Hillerman, Marshalltown, IA; and Doris Haley of Punta Gorda, FL. Two sons also survive, Charles "Chuck" Turner of Strasburg, CO. and Robert "Bob" Turner of Plano, Texas. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and three nieces and a nephew. He was preceded in death, in addition to his wife, by two sons, Forrest and Francis, two brothers and two sisters.
He was reared and educated in Maxwell. He was a longtime Story County resident, living in the Maxwell area for 45 years and working as a trucker. He farmed near Colo and then lived in Colo after he left farming. He resided in the State Center Manor for several years before moving to the IVH in December of 1987. He was a veteran of WW1 serving in the Army.
Mr. Turner was a charter member of the Maxwell American Legion 249.
