Gerald George Grant

October 15, 1939 - July 13, 2011
Nevada, Iowa

Gerald George Gregory Grant, 71, Nevada, died Wednesday, July 13, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames of cancer.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Monday, July 18th, at Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada.
Interment will be in the Nevada Municipal Cemetery.

Visitation will be 4:00 – 7:00 PM Sunday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada.

Gerald Grant, son of Frank and Mandelian (Foertsch) Grant, was born Oct. 15, 1939, in Wesley. He graduated from Corwith High School in 1957. He married Georgiann Kraft on April 8, 1961. He worked as a hired man on farms near Britt and Alexander before he started farming on his own in 1969 near Hampton. They started farming near Nevada in 1976.

He was a very active member of Memorial Lutheran Church in Nevada. He was a Pioneer Seed dealer, member of the Central Iowa Mutual Insurance Association Board of Directors, Nevada Township trustee and 4-H leader for many years and a member of the Story County Sheriff’s Reserve for 13 years.

He enjoyed restoring tractors, going on tractor rides, attending Iowa State University sporting events, mowing, moving snow and attending his grandchildren’s activities. He also enjoyed watching NASCAR and Jeff Gordon.

He was a farmer up to the very end.

Survivors include his wife, Georgiann Grant of Nevada; three children: Jeffrey and Jodi Grant of Sheldon,IA, Carmen and Brent Onken of Derby, KS, Kenneth and Jill Grant of Nevada, IA; eight grandchildren: Addison and Brailey Grant of Sheldon, IA; Jessica, Rachel and Sarah Onken of Derby, KS, and Emily, Brian and Spencer Grant of Nevada, IA; three brothers: Robert and Vicki Grant of Latimer, IA,David and Lynne Grant of Clear Lake, IA, Thomas and Kim Grant of Britt, IA; five sisters: Joan Davis of Iowa City, Karen Ingham and Richard Nuehring of Rockwell, IA, Mary Cahalan of Bozeman, MT, Linda and Robert Tallon of Cary, NC, Sandra Grant of Iowa City, IA; two brothers-in-law: Ronald and Carolee Kraft of Spokane Valley, WA, Richard and Marcia Kraft of Northwood, IA; and two sisters-in-law, Bonnie Telfer of Jacksonville, NC, and Joan Grant of Orlando, FL.

He was preceded in death by a son, David Gerald Grant in infancy; his parents; three brothers, Michael Grant in infancy, Donald Grant and William Grant; a brother-in-law, Rollin Ingham; a nephew, Michael Grant; and a niece, Donna Davis.
