Opal Wheat
April 28, 1919 - January 1, 2012
Nevada, IowaNEVADA- Opal Irene (Moody) Wheat, 92, of Nevada, Iowa passed away Sunday, January 1, 2012, at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, Iowa.
Opal was born April 28, 1919 the daughter of John Elmer and Mintha Della (Tippit) Moody in Henderson, Arkansas. On December 24, 1938 she married Roy W. Wheat. To this union two children were born. She worked several years at Donnelley Marketing in Nevada, Iowa. After leaving Donnelley's, she spent many hours quilting and crocheting. Her children and grandchildren received much of her handiwork.
Opal is survived by her daughter: Mary Lee Wheat of Nevada, Iowa; her son: Darrel (Sharon) Wheat of DuFuniak Springs, Florida; one grandson: Ronald Wheat of Nevada, Iowa; four granddaughters: Sonja (Gary) Plunkett of Maxwell, Iowa, Rhonda (Kurt) Haun of Elkhart, Iowa, Candy (Mike) Gaedke of Colo, Iowa, Dorene (Greg) Cory of Maxwell, Iowa; twelve great-grandchildren; her sister: Cleffie Schulz of Mountain View, Missouri; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Opal was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, in 1982, her parents, two brothers and three sisters.
Funeral services will be 1:30 PM Thursday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Nevada, Iowa. Visitation will begin Thursday at noon and continue to the start of the service. Interment will be in the Lincoln Township Cemetery in Zearing, Iowa.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Israel Family Hospice House.
