From Bacon Funeral Home & Crematory obituary, Nevada and Maxwell, Story County, Iowa:

Patricia A. Darrah

January 14, 1933 - January 5, 2012
Ames, Iowa

Patricia Ann (Brown) Darrah was released from her earthly bonds on December 5, 2012 following a long battle with Alzheimer 's disease.

Patricia (Patty as she called herself) was born January 14, 1933, in Hastings, Iowa to Harry and Leora (Stewart) Brown. She had a half-sister that was many years her senior – so Patricia always sort of considered herself an only child. Patricia was married to her husband of nearly 57 years, December 18, 1951, at 2:30 pm in the Dodge Memorial Church, Council Bluffs IA. We hear by those in attendance, she giggled nervously through the entire ceremony.

Patricia loved her family, her pets and animals. She was a very devoted mother – kind of the momma crocodile-type of mother – who would protect her children at any cost. She created a life for herself that was generally centered around those two things – family and pets. She was known to stop at farms if she saw a skinny animal and ask to buy it. We had all sorts of strange animals growing up because of this habit – and as everyone probably know…there were no skinny animals at our house! She was strong, loving and kind and had a charm and personality all her own.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her sons, Warren "Neal" (Lora) Darrah of Glenwood, IA; Jerry (Carla) Darrah of Nevada and her daughter, Leora (Ray) Darrah-Jarnagin of Nevada; ten grandchildren, Jason, Angie, Amanda, Katie, Leora, Patrick, Joshua, Natalie, Kenna and Taylor and 5 great-grandchildren she never knew because of Alzheimer's Disease. Patricia has other family and friends that are also here to share their memories of Patricia with her children.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her half-sister and many of her life-long friends.

Inurnment will be at the Malvern Cemetery, Malvern Iowa, along with her husband who has patiently be awaiting her – their cremains will be buried together in a single plot in the spring, next to other family.

Memorial contributions may be sent to Leora Darrah-Jarnagin (521 G Avenue, Nevada). All memorials offered will be donated to the Alzheimer's Association in Patricia's Loving Memory and in Memory of her struggle with the disease.
