Maxwell, Iowa

Mike Tinkham, 66, of Maxwell, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at his home near Maxwell.

Mike was born June 4, 1945, in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Donald and Winifred (Gibb) Tinkham. Mike graduated from West Marshall High School in 1963. He was united in marriage to Carol Peters on June 18, 1966, at the Maxwell Methodist Church. Mike was a carpenter all of his life. He was a member of the Maxwell United Methodist where he was a trustee and had served on several committees. He was appointed to serve on the Brushy Creek Conservation Committee. Mike was beginning his 16th year on the Brushy Creek Trail Advisory Board. He was one of the longest serving board members. His love for trail riding, equine camping, and participation in park development and maintenance issues throughout the equine community and specifically Brushy Creek State Recreation Area made him a true advocate for all equine and trail users alike. His contributions, suggestions, and guidance throughout his long and successful term will truly be missed, but not forgotten. Mike was also a member of the Maxwell Rodeo Committee, the former Maxwell Saddle Club, and the former Maxwell Masonic Lodge. Mike enjoyed the love of his wife, Carol. Together, they enjoyed their horses and riding throughout the country.

Mike is survived by his wife, Carol, of Maxwell, Iowa; a daughter: Julie (Jeremy) Lucy of Maxwell, Iowa; a son: Steven (Rhonda) Tinkham of Lee Summit, Missouri; six grandchildren; his mother: Winifred "Winnie" Tinkham of Maxwell, Iowa; and a sister-in-law: Connie Tinkham of Marion, Iowa.

Mike was preceded in death by his father, Don, and his brother Charles.

Memorial services will be Friday, March 23, 2012, at 11 AM at the Maxwell United Methodist Church. Inurnment will be in the Woodland Cemetery at Iowa Center, Iowa.

Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 PM Thursday at the Bacon Funeral Home in Maxwell.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, www.cancer.org.

The Bacon Funeral Home and Crematory in Maxwell is handling arrangements.
