Don Harry Clark
June 29, 1918 - January 28, 2011
ObituaryDon H. Clark, 92, of Ames, Iowa, died Friday January 28, 2011 at Bickford Cottage after struggling with Alzheimer's disease for many years. Visitation will be from 9:30am until service time at 11:00am Saturday Feb 5, at First Christian Church in Ames.
Don was born June 29, 1918 in Paducah, KY, the son of James Harry Clark and Aletha (Brantley) Clark. He was united in marriage to Mary Edith Helton on Dec. 24, 1941 in Anna, IL.
He was preceded in death by his parents; by his brothers Marion Everet Clark, James Ray Clark; and his sister Elsie (Clark) Chapman. His wife, Mary Edith, died in July, 2004.
Don leaves behind to cherish his memory, his children Donna Marie (Dick) Gulliver of Black Mountain, NC, and James Paul (Donna Starck) Clark of Ames; his grandchildren, Debra (Darren Hendon) Gulliver of Stockbridge, GA, Dave (Kelly) Gulliver of Ardmore, TN, Sean Clark of New York City, NY, James (Jenna) Clark of Minneapolis, MN, and Kyla (Adam Todd) Clark of Minneapolis, MN; great-grandchildren, Andy Robinson of Odenville, AL, and Jackson Clark of New York City, NY.
Don was a veteran of WWII serving with the Army's 29th Infantry in Europe.
He traveled extensively for various textile companies retiring from Pennaco Hosiery Co. in 1981. Don and Mary lived in Paducah, KY and Charlotte, NC before moving to Ames in 1955. He was a longtime member of First Christian Church and the Golden K Kiwanis in Ames. He was a generous, hard working, and witty person who made friends wherever he went. He was a gift enjoyed by many.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church in Ames.
