October 20, 1920 - November 15, 2011
ObituaryLeona M. (Cavanaugh) Johnson, 91, of Ames, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, November 15, 2011 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A visitation will be held on Friday, November 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Heartland Baptist Church in Ames. Burial will be in Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Leona Johnson was born October 20, 1920 in Ferguson, IA to Osmond and Ora (Brallier) Cavanaugh. She was baptized and confirmed at Grace Evangelical Church in Story City by Rev. C.L. Fuller in 1933. She attended schools in Cedar Rapids and Story City. She married Leo C. Johnson on March 8, 1938, and they lived in Ames since 1940.
She worked at Ames Fruit and Grocery Stores for fifteen years. She loved watching the birds in the backyard. The Brooklyn Dodgers and the Chicago Cubs were her favorite baseball teams, and also any Iowa team.
She is survived by three children, Larry (Linda) Johnson, of Roland, Ron (Kathy) Johnson, and Sharon (Ray) Cruse, all of Ames; 13 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 6 sisters; 2 brothers; 1 grandchild; and 2 great grandchildren.
