Violet Marvel Hatch
January 14, 1921 - December 14, 2011
ObituaryViolet Marvel Sudderberg Michel Hatch, 90, of Ames, died Wednesday, December 14, 2011. Visitation will be held Sunday, Dec. 18 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Funeral services will be Monday, Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery in Webster City.
Violet Hatch was born January 14, 1921 in Webster County, IA to Lewis and Laura Alma Sudderberg. She was 3rd oldest of 10 children. She graduated from Boone High School June 3, 1938. Vi worked in the Citizens Bank in the bookkeeping department during her senior year. On June 22, 1938 she married Henry Michel at Zion Lutheran Church in Ogden. They farmed in Boone and Hamilton counties. They were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames 1954-1959, until moving to Stanhope where they joined St. Paul Lutheran Church in Webster City. Henry died June 23, 1982, after being ill for 11 years.
Vi worked at ISU, commuting to Ames daily from Stanhope. On August 18, 1991, Violet and Herb Hatch were married at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Webster City. Vi rejoined St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ames. She never questioned God's hand in guiding and directing her to join Herb in a union of true love. She and Herb enjoyed the many trips to family/children's homes. He died June 4, 2001.
Vi continued to volunteer at Sunday school at her church, and at Heartland Senior Center. While living in Stanhope, she daily hung the American flag in Stanhope Park.
She is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Ellwood) Bentley, and Phyllis (Gary) Randall; three grandchildren, Michelle (Mark) Kintner, Corey Randall, and Nathan Bentley; six great grandchildren, Daniel, Joseph, Mitchel, Meghan, Andrew, and Shelby; two sistyers, Irene (Virgil) Moeller, and Diann (Kenny) Sundahl; and sister-in-law, Ina Sudderberg.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, sisters, Opal Casner, Betty Jean Parkin, Shirley Germer; and brothers, Howard, Glenn, Donald, and Kenny.
