Nina Pritchard Shearer
November 11, 1908 - January 31, 2012
ObituaryNina (Avise) Pritchard Shearer, 103, of Boone, passed away peacefully with her family and friends at her side on Tuesday, January 31, 2012. A visitation will be held Friday, February 3 from 2 to 8 p.m., with the family present from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Memorial Chapel in Ames. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 4 at Stevens Memorial Chapel. Burial will be in Nevada Municipal Cemetery.
Nina Shearer was born November 11, 1908 in rural Altoona to Hunter and Grace (Garber) Avise. She graduated from Bondurant High School in 1926 and attended Simpson college and business college.
She married Albert Pritchard on June 15, 1933 and farmed at Bondurant, State Center, and Ames. He died in May, 1962. She married Harold W. Shearer on September 5, 1964 and lived near Boone. Nina was a homemaker and secretary. Nina was a founding member of the Story County Association for Retarded Children. She served as a Sunday school teacher, youth sponsor, and 4-H leader. She was a dedicated Christian and a fervent advocate for the cause of world missions.
She is survived by her husband, Harold W. Shearer, of Boone; daughter, Leah (John) Huffman, of Omaha, NE; granddaughter, Suzanne (Andrew) Jed, of Santa Monica, CA; grandson, John A. (Ashleigh) Huffman, of Omaha; and great grandson, Max Jed.
She was preceded in death by her parents; first husband; two brothers, Wayne and Lowell Avise; and son, Ernest Pritchard.
Memorial contributions will be given by the family to missions.
