Pauline Nelson

BORN: June 9, 1908
DIED: October 23, 2010
LOCATION: Ames, Iowa

Pauline Nelson, 102, of Ames died Saturday, Oct. 23 at Heartwood House. Visitation is 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27 at Adams Funeral Home. Memorial Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28 at First United Methodist Church. Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.

Pauline was born June 9, 1908 on a farm northeast of Gilbert, the oldest of four children born to John (Harry) and Ella Emma (Brown) Dodds. She graduated from Ames High School and during that time worked at JC Penney. For twenty-five years she was a telephone operator for AT&T.
Pauline married Charles E. (Chuck) Nelson July 3l, 1937 in Knoxville, Iowa. They resided in Ames and enjoyed spending time with family and friends. To this union, two sons were born, Paul and Jerry.

Pauline was a long-time active member of First United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women. She was a fifty year member of the Ames Woman’s Club, belonged to PEO Chapter IV, and Kappa Delta Phi. She enjoyed her Craft Club, Hicollto Dance Club and Red Friars.

Pauline is survived by her sons, Paul (Sandi) Nelson and Jerry (Mary) Nelson; grandchildren and great grandchildren, Michele (Nelson) Steppe, Logan and Ashlie, Gregory Nelson, Christopher (Anne) Nelson, Erik, Ian and Evan, Joseph (Aimee) Nelson and Lauren, and Matthew (Jackie) Nelson and baby due in December; sister, Lois Cowan; sister-in-law, Dorothy Dodds; nieces and nephews; and special family friends, Sandy (McLarnan) and Darold Plate.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles; brother, Harold (Bob) Dodds; and sister, Helen Goodloe.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to First United Methodist Church.
