Raymond Swett
BORN: July 8, 1950
DIED: November 19, 2010
LOCATION: Ames, IowaRaymond Lester Swett went to be with Jesus on November 19, 2010, after a lengthy illness. He was the second son of Edith and Harold Swett, born July 8, 1950. He was preceded in death by his parents and one nephew, Adrew Swett. Survivors include his brother Byron (wife Rosa), his sister Cheryl and nephew Randy Swett, four nieces, their children, uncles, aunts and many cousins who will miss him dearly.
He was a member of First Assembly of God in Ames, attended Bible Camp in Boone with his mother and Cheryl. He attended school in Gilbert, served his country in the Army National Guard of Iowa, attended Auto Mechanic School in Des Moines. He also earned his GED from Des Moines Area Community College in Boone. For a time he assisted in his brother’s brick-laying business. But his main enjoyment was repairing and restoring cars for resale, when his health permitted.
He was always present at family reunion, including camping reunions at Saylorville Lake. At his last family reunion in September, he and four other cousins celebrated their 60th birthdays. Grandma Wierson would have enjoyed that.
The family wishes to express appreciation to his social workers, nurses and doctors who cared for him in his many illnesses and hospitalizations, as well as the pastors and chaplains, and many friends and relatives who kept him in their prayers. He was a gentle giant, many times telling Cheryl and others “Jesus loves us”. There is no doubt he was a Christian in his heart. There was surely a happy homecoming in Heaven when Ray arrived, with loved ones there: Mommie, Grandma, and many more who love him.
