Roger Kent Swenson

BORN: July 30, 1943
DIED: August 5, 2012
LOCATION: Ankeny, Iowa

Roger Kent Swenson, passed away Sunday, August 5, 2012 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Roger had ocular melanoma that contributed to liver cancer. He was 69. Born July 30, 1943 in Ames, Iowa, the son of Elmer Martin Swenson and Amy Ilaine (Gjerde) Swenson.

Roger graduated from Radcliffe High School in 1961. He retired from the Department of Transportation in 2005, after over 48 years in different departments. He enjoyed his coffee, golf, mowing, and farming. Above all else, Roger enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by wife Virginia (Martin) Swenson, daughter Angela (Mark) Schnurstein, and grandchildren Emma and Mason, of Ankeny.

Visitation will be from 5-7 pm, Wednesday, August 8th at the Soderstrum Funeral Home, 618 Lafayette Ave., Story City, Iowa. The funeral will be Thursday at 10:30 am at Ankeny Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) 2506 SW 3rdStreet, Ankeny, Iowa, followed by lunch. The burial will be Thursday at 2 pm at the Roland Cemetery on highway E18.

A memorial fund has been established in his name.
