BORN: April 17, 1929
DIED: December 8, 2010
LOCATION: Story City, IowaLyla Irene Kalvik was born on April 17, 1929 to Lester and Oleva (Jacobson) Haukoos near Stanhope, Iowa. Lyla graduated Stanhope High School in 1946. She married Cecil Kalvik on August 15, 1948 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Lyla had lived in Story City since 1949 and was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. She was active in her church and was a Sunday school teacher for many years. Lyla enjoyed gardening and plants, shopping at flea markets and activities with her family.
Lyla passed away December 8, 2010 at Bethany Manor in Story City at 81 years of age.She is survived by three sons, Mark and his wife Pam Kalvik of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, David and his wife Jody Kalvik of Randall, Iowa, and Nathan and his wife Carolyn Kalvik of Ames, Iowa; two daughters, Anna and her husband Roger Betten of Grand Terrace, California, and Susan and her husband Glen Sailsbury of Dysart, Iowa; eleven grandchildren, Amanda, Brenda, Nicholas, Renae, Cory, Kris, Noel, Eva, Nora, Travis, and Sirena; eight great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Betty Ehrig of Grundy Center, Iowa, Barbara Schweppe of Jewell, Iowa, and Mary Beth Rhinehart of Ossian, Iowa.
Lyla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; one brother Harris Haukoos; twin infant sons; her granddaughter Karie Kalvik; and a daughter-in-law Ann Kalvik.
