Death date: November 10, 2010

Obituary:

Olga Polanycia, 60 of Belfield, ND died Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at St. Benedict's Health Center in Dickinson, ND after a lengthy illness during which she exemplified courage and strength of faith. A Parastas for Olga was held in Dickinson, ND on Monday, November 15. A graveside service will be held 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 20 at the Nevada Municipal Cemetery with Father Rick Dagit officiating.

Olga was born on May 15, 1950 in Stuttgart, Germany to Iwan and Kateryna "Katie" Polanycia. She came to the United States via ship in December of 1950, accompanied by her father, mother, brother and sister. She graduated from Belfield High School in 1970 and attended a technical institute in Denver, attaining an AA in Computer Science, and took various other continuing education classes.

Olga was employed at the Allen Company in Denver as a seamstress. Later she moved to Texas and worked at Fiberite as a Lab Technician certifying materials to be used in the manufacture of aircraft components. Several years later, Olga moved back to Belfield to pursue a career in food service and to provide care and companionship to her mother who had recently been widowed.

Olga was actively involved in the church community of St. John's Ukrainian Catholic Church, and enjoyed sewing, embroidery, cooking and baking. She made a tasty signature shepherds pie and excelled at baking sometimes selling her goods at Christmas. She had a tenderness and compassion for animals and held a special place in her heart for her personal furry friends: a cat called Fuzzy, a dog named Patches, a Siamese cat named Blue Eyes and a fluff ball named Sam and she was always on call for the neighborhood strays that needed love and attention.

She was not a materialistic person, her wants were few, and her wishes were mostly for others. She was very humble and under estimated her capabilities often not recognizing her natural talents and gifts. She was very good at living in the present moment and going with the flow. She longed to be surrounded by family and friends and her favorite place was Denver. She loved to take scenic rides and was a lot of fun at holidays, rich with laughter and practical joking.

Olga is survived by her mother, Katie of Dickinson, ND; four siblings, Nick (Noel) Polanycia of Arvada, CO, Marie Polanchek of Sudbury, MA, Pete (Carolyn) Polanycia of Lakeland, FL, and Annie (Steve) Burrell of Brooklyn Park, MN; nine nieces and nephews Kathy Ann, Zera, Myko, JC, Michele, Andrew, Nicole, Chris and Alex; six great nieces and nephews, Michael, Colton, Immy, Mattie, McKenna, and Annika.

Her father preceded her in death in September of 1990.
