Roger Anderson
BORN: September 8, 1945
DIED: June 17, 2011
LOCATION: Story City, IowaRoger Keith Anderson, 65, passed away June 17, at Israel Family Hospice House after a long battle with Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis.
Roger is survived by his loving wife, Barbara; children, Scott Werner of Waukee, Brian (Lauri) Werner of Gilbert, Kim (Mike) Wetzel of Norwalk; grandchildren, Kyle Werner, Haley and Tyson Knight, Kory, Dustin and Deven Miller; and great-grandchildren, Bailey and James Miller. He is also survived by sisters, Joyce (Dr. William) Ryan of Fort Dodge, Nancy Eischen of Ames; brothers, Larry (Karen) Anderson of Huxley, and Paul Anderson of Radcliffe, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and nephew, Gregory Ryan.
Roger was born September 8, 1945, the son of Orville and Ardyce (Vold) Anderson. He grew up on the family Brown Swiss dairy farm six miles north of Roland and graduated from Roland Community School in 1964, and received a B.A. degree from the University of Northern Iowa. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a member of Legion Post 307. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War.
He worked in the grain bin business as co-owner of Vold and Anderson Inc. in Jewell. He retired from Iowa State University in August, 2010.
Wildlife and photography were his life long passions. He was a long time member of Ducks Unlimited and helped start Story County Pheasants Forever in the mid 1980’s. He enjoyed hunting collectibles and was a member of the Midwest Decoy Collectors.
Roger was very proud of his family. His dry wit, humor and caring ways will be greatly missed.
Roger donated his remains to the Deeded Body Program for Research at the University of Iowa. A Memorial gathering of the immediate family is planned for a later date. Memorials can be made to Israel Family Hospice House or St. Petri Lutheran Church in Story City.
