Gertrude Wierson
BORN: October 18, 1925
DIED: August 1, 2011
LOCATION: Ames, Iowa
Gertrude was born in Ames October 18, 1925 to Gunder and Jane (Egemo) Fjare. She was a 1943 graduate of Ames High School and received her B.A. degree from St. Olaf College, Northfield, MN in 1948. Gertrude married Gene Wierson October 29, 1949 in Ames.
She was employed at the HyVee Deli until her retirement in 2010. She was a member of Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada, and the Ladies Auxiliary American Legion Post 37. Gertrude enjoyed camping, knitting, and baking but especially enjoyed spending time with her family – the more the merrier. She also enjoyed watching her grandchildren’s activities.
Gertrude is survived by her children, Gary (Gail) Wierson of Ames, Vicki (Kenny) Borwick of Nevada, Cindy Howe of Roland, Greg Wierson of Ames, Doug (Peggy) Wierson of Ames, and Linda Wierson of Des Moines; grandchildren, Brian (Annie) Wierson, Emily Wierson, Chad (Vanessa) Borwick, Sophie Howe, Gunder Howe, Donnie Howe, Steven Howe, Ryan (Alyssa) Wierson, Angie (Justin) Jensen, Megan Wierson, Bret Wierson, Macy Zalinsky, Derek Wierson, Hank Wierson, Ted Wierson, and Seth Hansen; twelve great grandchildren; five foster children, Howard Brown, Carey Poole, Bill Schatz, Dan Jeffrey and Don Jeffrey; brother, Milford Fjare; and sister, Jurine Schellberg.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; and two brothers, Lloyd and Paul Fjare.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Children’s Ministry Fund at Memorial Lutheran Church, Nevada.
