Obituary Of Mary A. Hanson
COLLINS--Mrs. Mary A. Hanson, daughter of George and Adrianna Pease, was born at Sandwich, DeKalb County, Illinois, July 28, 1874. As a girl of seven years, she left her farm home with her parents and moved to Collins Township, Story County, Iowa. They located on the Pease Homestead, 1 1/2 miles northwest of Collins, with her brothers, Herb and Jack Pease.
Mary attended elementary school in country and town and graduated with the first class of the Collins High School in 1892, with Supt. C. W. Lyon. At an early age Mary Ida united with the Collins Methodist church.
On January 23, 1898, at the Pease country home there occurred the marriage of Mary A. Pease to Amos H. Hanson of Collins, Iowa. The happily wed couple lived their life generally in town until retirement of Mr. and Mrs. Pease, who moved from the farm to the Hanson residence, with their daughter Mary Ada and Amos. making their home in an adjacent residence to the parents.
There was born to this home three children: one daughter, Ruth Elizabeth, a still birth, February 9, 1909, two sons Hans Hanson of Ames, and Amos Hanson of Des Moines, Iowa.
Mother Hanson was an active worker in the Women's Christian Aid Society, Kensington Club of the Methodist church and Mystic Workers Lodge, now reorganized to Fidelity Life Association, Fulton, Illinois.
Over a period of years, Mrs. Hanson had been suffering with infirmities due to age and only the last six months has been able to sit in a chair, at the Elm Crest Nursing Home, Des Moines. She was taken there June 12, 1952, following a short hospitalization at University Hospitals in Iowa City and Story County hospital, Nevada, Iowa. Mrs. Hanson passed away December 9.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Amos H. Hanson, who was an auto-pedestrian accident victim November 19, 1948, her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Pease, her infant daughter, Ruth Elizabeth Hanson and her brother, Andrew J. Pease.
There leaves to mourn her passing, her two sons, Hans and Amos, one daughter-in-law, Leota and two grandchildren, Noel Edwin and Mary Helen, her brother, Herb Pease, San Diego, Calif. Other close relatives are Mrs. Maude Stigler, Slater, and Mrs. Iola Shonk, Wayzata, Minnesota, and Mrs. Ella Bauley, Medford, Oregon and a host of neighbors and friends.
