Casper "Cap" Torkelson
BORN: April 3, 1911
DIED: March 20, 2012
LOCATION: Huxley, Iowa
Casper Orlin "Cap" Torkelson, 100, of Huxley, formerly of Ames, died March 20 at Mary Greeley Medical Center. Visitation is 2-4 p.m. Sunday, March 25 at Adams Funeral Home. Funeral services are 11 a.m. Monday, March 26 at Bethesda Lutheran Church. Burial will be in the Ames Municipal Cemetery.
Casper was born April 3, 1911 in Story County to Hans and Bertha (Lund) Torkelson. He graduated from Randall High School and from ISU in Animal Husbandry. He continued his love of animals for the rest of his life. On December 31, 1940 he married Ruth Olson in Ames. He farmed until 1960 and then worked at Hach Chemical for 17 years. Cap was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church, American Iris Society and the Day Lily Society. Cap loved life to the fullest enjoying his activities up until the end. He loved the simple things in life like his garden, sports, and bowling until he was 99. His day lily garden at Ballard Creek Community is renowned and will be enjoyed for years to come.
His survivors include his daughter, Karen (Dale) Reynoldson of Plantation, FL; three grandchildren, Brett Reynoldson, Todd Torkelson and Dana (Ryan) Krauser; great-granddaughters, Taylor and Dylan Krauser; brother, Sanford Torkelson, of Indo, CA; and sister, Clarice Collins of Mason City.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ruth; one son; and two brothers.
