John Jacob Breed
BORN: January 16, 1918
DIED: July 10, 2012
LOCATION: Boone, Iowa
John Jacob Breed was born January 16, 1918 to Peter and Nellie (Vriezelaar) Breed on a farm in Marion County, Iowa. John accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at age 12 and has been a member of First Baptist Church in Monroe since that time. He graduated from Monroe High School in 1935. John and Berdine Grace Jabaai were married on September 12, 1940. To this union three daughters were born: Marcene (Larry D.) Renaud, Gayle (Gary) Edwards, and Jan Jungjohan.
John farmed in the Fairmount (Jasper County) area most of his working years and also worked in a bakery in Prairie City for 10 years. John and Berdine retired from the farm and moved to Monroe on January 2, 1978. In December of 2003 they moved to Ames. While living in Ames John attended Heartland Baptist Church. John and Berdine moved to Westhaven Community in July of 2011.
Special joys in John's life were his children and grandchildren. Hobbies he enjoyed were woodworking, gardening, baking, wine making, reading, and staying current on world events.
John passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012 at Westhaven Community in Boone, Iowa at 94 years of age.
Those left to honor the memory of John Breed are his wife, Berdine; children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Marcene and Larry D. Renaud of Ames and children Brian and Tina Renaud with Aaron, Natalie, and Gabrielle of Dallas, TX, and Kim and Steve Whitham with Owen and Olivia of Ames; Gayle and Gary Edwards and children Tammy and Stan Hyer with Adam Hyer, Zakary, Brooke, and Brayden, all of Ames, and Tina McCann (Tim Longnecker) with Thomas; and Jan Jungjohan of Ames with Abby Jungjohan of Iowa City. Also surviving is his sister-in-law Catherine Breed of Ottumwa.
Preceding him in death were his parents; and his brother, Arie E. Breed.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Baptist Church in Ames, Monroe Baptist Church in Monroe, or Homeward Hospice of Ames.
