C. H. Beach killed in Minnesota accident
C. H. (Homer) Beach of near Story City was killed Friday afternoon in a two-car collision on Hwy. 71 south of Windom, Minn. Mrs. Beach and Mr. and Mrs. Nolan Ostrem of Ames were injurred in the accident.
Mr. and Mrs. Beach and the latter's sister and brother-in-law, the Ostrems, were returning from a vacation to Yellowstone and the Black Hills. They were south of Windom, Minn. when a car pulled out from a side road and struck their vehicle in the middle on the left side. Mr. Beach was killed instantly, and their car rolled over several times.
Mrs. Beach suffered bruises; Mrs. Ostrem was hospitalized with facial lacerations; Mr. Ostrem sustained a minor leg injury.
Funeral services were held for Mr. Beach on Tuesday, September 3, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Story City at 2 p. m., with Rev. Harold T. Masted officiating. Mrs. Louise Olson, orgnist, accompanied Mrs. Benjamin Anderson as she sang "God Understand" and "Beyond the Sunset."
Pallbearers were Albert Henryson, Earnest Eggland, Richard Swenson, Gale Eggland, Truman West and Leonard Christian. Interment was in the Roland cemetery.
Obituary
Charles Homer Beach was born November 13, 1908 in Birkesville, Missouri, the eighth child of Oliver and Maude Beach. He died August 30, 1963 in Cottonwood County near Windom, Minn., at the age of 54 years, 9 months and 27 days.
He was baptised at about the age of 15 years in the Assembly of God Church at Sigby, Mo. On December 29, 1933, he was united in marriage to Hazel Stensland, daughter of Knute and Jennie Stensland. To this union were born three children, Helen Maude, Charles Knute, and June Hazel. All of their married life was spent farming in this community. The past five years have been spent on their present farm north of Story City.
In the spring of 1948, he joined the Memorial Lutheran Church of Nevada. In May 1959, he transferred his membership to the Immanuel Lutheran Church at Story City, following the purchase of their farm near Story City.
Survivors include his wife, Hazel; his children, Mr. and Mrs. Charles (Helen) Harrell of Nevada, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Beach of Ralston, and Mr. and Mrs. John (June) Lee of Roland; seven grandchildren, Sonja, Debbie, Cassie and Bryan Harrell, Dorene Beach, and Robert and Allen Lee; his mother, Mrs. Maude Garman of Gravette, Ark.; five brothers and three sisters, Willie, Arthur, Mrs. Daisy Woodel, Sidney, Mrs. Gladys Horner, Earnest, Mrs. Eva Overland, and Roscoe. Preceding him in death were his father and one brother.
