Theodore Baldus, a farmer living six miles north of Ames, lost two children about ten days ago, with diphtheria, their deaths occuring only about two days apart. He has two more afflicted with the same disease, but hopes are entertained for their recovery.

SUBMITTER'S NOTE: Josephine Baldus died first on 6 January 1879 and Victor Baldus four days later on 10 January 1879. At least one other child, Florence Baldus, apparently succombed to the illness dying on 20 February 1879.
