From Nevada Representative July 11, 1877
KILLED BY LIGHTNING.--On Sunday morning last, near the hour of eight, a young man about 27 years old by the name of Elias Williams, keeping bachelor's hall in Collins township, was killed by lightning, together with a horse that he was currying at the time. The circumstances seem to indicate that he had just fed his team and was in the act of currying the horses when the stroke came, killing him and one of the horses, but in no way injuring the other. he has an uncle living in Marthall county, but no other relatives nearer than Pennsylvania. He was buried at Colo on Tuesday.
COLO, IOWA, July 10th, 1877.
After the corners inquest held over the body of Elias Williams and prononced dead, there arose an opinion for a short time in the minds of some that life was not extinct. After keeping him until this morning, signs of decomposition were too plain to be disputed by any one and was only entertained by those who had nothing to do with him. Therefore, we the undersigned committee into whose hands he had been placed, without the shadow of a doubt as to his being dead committed his body to the tomb, deeply feeling the loss of so worthy a citizen and friend.
