Dunahugh.
Alexander Dunahugh was born in the Shenandoah Valley in Virginia, February 10, 1840, and died at his home in Nevada November 25, 1905. He came to Iowa in 1856 and settled in Johnson county where he lived about four years. He then moved to Lynn county where he made his home until 1868 when he moved to Story county. He was married to Eliza Ann Ulum in Johnson county in 1868 and in May, 1904, she passed away. Their only child a son, Andrew met his death in 1891, the result of a death in 1891, the result of a hunting accident while visiting with a friend in Nebraska.
In August 1863 Mr. Dunahugh enlisted in the Union army as a private in Company H, 22nd Iowa Infantry but was discharged in about a year on account illness. For a number of years he lived on a farm in New Albany township but upon coming to Nevada he worked for Boardman Bros. About four years ago he entered into partnership with Geo. Atkinson a young man who has made his home with the family since the death of his son, Andrew. He continued as an active member of the firm of Atkinson & Dunahugh, grocers, until April 1902, when he suffered a stroke of paralysis, other strokes followed, each one leaving him weaker and more helpless. He was a good man, esteemed by family, neighbors and friends. Since the death of his wife Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Atkinson have cared for him and have been as devoted to him as his own son could have been.
The funeral services were held at the Presbyterian church by Rev. Sanford under the auspices of the I. O. O. F. and the pall bearers were from Jason D. Ferguson Post, G. A. R.
