Died--On Wednesday morning at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Hughes near Kelley George W. Sowers at the age of 78 years, 1 month and 3 days. he was born in Putnam county, Ind., coming to Iowa in 1854, settling in Milford township, Story county, where he has since resided. He is survived by five sons and two daughters, they being James W., Thomas, Chas. W., Elmer E., and Adelbert, and Mrs. Sarah Hughes and Mrs. Minnie Young. The last rites were held at the Methodist church in Ames. While long expected it came upon all suddenly and few could realize what had just happened and could scarcely believe that report at the first assertion. He stood high with our people and while expected sooner or later by all none but trusted the time would be distant.
