John Dunahoo was born in Virginia, October 5, 1829 and in early life moved with his parent to Ohio, from there to Indiana where he grew to manhood and in 1851 he was married to Rachel Ray. He moved to Iowa in 1853 and has since made this his home. He died November 12, 1904, age seventy-five years, one month and seven days. He leaves five children, sixteen grandchildren, two brothers and two sisters to mourn his departure. Deceased was a true man of God and had been affiliated with his church for many years. He was a member of the Methodist church a part of the time and had also been connected with the Evangelical church.
The funeral was held in the United Evangelical church at Iowa Center and conducted by Rev. J. D. Sparks, pastor of the M. E. church of this city and assisted by Rev. V. Urbino. Deceased was a member of both the Masonic and Odd Fellow faternities of Maxwell and the Masons took charge of the funeral service, and performed the beautiful burial rites. Interment was made in the Woodland cemetery at Iowa Center.
