AMES DEPARTMENT OF THE WATCHMAN

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Soper of Nevada attended the burial services of little Francis West, son of Mr. and Mrs. Flave West of Ogden, who was interred in the Ames cemetery Tuesday afternoon. The boy who was six years of age met an awful death while on the farm at his fathers place one mile and a half south of Ogden, last week. He was with his father and brother while they were feeding stock. Standing on the whiffle tree of the wagon he was unable to protect himself when a piece of fodder fell from the wagon striking one of the horses and frightening the team so that they ran away. Francis was thrown into a tree and then horribly mangled by the wagon passing over his body. The accident occurred at ten o'clock Saturday morning and he lived until eleven thirty Sunday morning. The remains were brought from Ogden at one o'clock Tuesday accompanied by the parents, brothers and Mrs. Hattie West McCoy of Rock Rapids, Mrs. Dr. Fairchild of Des Moines, Miss Nellie Rockwell of St. Paul, Mr. and Mrs. Williams of Ogden, and Mrs. Chaffie of St. Paul besides a party of twenty-five Masons and Eastern Stars of which order the parents are members.
