From Story County Watchman October 30, 1903

On Monday last Orville Guthrie shot himself at the home of Daniel Dakin, near Zearing. Coroner Conner was called and returned his report in accord with the facts of the case. One report is to the effect that it was caused by the jilting of his girl, but that may not be a fact.
