From Story County Watchman August 28, 1903

Ames, Aug. 25.--Isaac Jones, an old resident of Story county, died last Wednesday at the home of his son, Samuel, in Des Moines at the advanced age of one hundred and four years. His funeral was held in Kelley Saturday and the remains interred in the Walnut Grove Cemetery about six miles south of Ames. Mr. Jones was one of the first settlers of Story county, coming here before there was any Ames, the nearest town being Des Moines. He was born in England and came to Pennsylvania when a young man. From there he moved on westward to Bloomington, Illinois, and after living there for a number years moved to Story county, locating near where the small town of Kelley is now situated. Here he spent a large portion of his life, remaining forty-eight years, afterwards moving to Des Moines where he spent the remaining days of his old age. He was the father of nine children. Before coming to America he was a sailor and for a time after coming to Pennsylvania he followed the Pennsylvania canal. Since his residence in Iowa he has been a farmer until only ten years ago, when he retired from active life.
