Slater News: ....A sad accident occurred in Sheldahl Monday afternoon when Mr. Watson, who had been drilling a well for the railroad company, was killed by the derrick falling over him. He has been working at the will since last October and two hours more would have omplteted the work. His head and breast were crushed by the falling derrick. The accident occurred about four o'clock. He lingered till ten o'clock in the evening but never regained consciousness....

J. P. Watson, a former resident of Ames, was killed at Sheldahl Monday by being struck with a falling derrick. The accident occurred at 5:30 in the afternoon and he lived until shortly after eleven o'clock that night. His remains were brought to this city Wednesday morning and interment took place in the cemetery here in the afternoon the funeral services being conducted from the Christian church by Rev. Ferrall.
