From Story County Watchman April 24, 1903

Mrs. E. S. Hoag, one of the older residents of the county, passed away this morning about eight o'clock. She has been a patient sufferer for many years and death undoubtedly comes as a relief. The obituary will appear in next week's issue.

From Story County Watchman May 1, 1903

MRS. SARAH HOAG.

One of Story County's older residents, Mrs. Sarah Hoag, passed quietly away at her home inthis city last Friday morning, April 24, 1903, at the age of 74. She has been an invalid for several years unable to move except when moved by others; yet was always cheerful and bore her suffering with patience.

Mrs. Hoag was born in Byron, New York, October 6, 1828, and later moved to Knowlesville, at which place she was married to Edward S. Hoag in 1852. In 1856 she accompanied her husband to Nevada and here they have since resided, respected by all who knew them. Mr. Hoag passed away eleven years ago, leaving his wife in the care of their daughter Mrs. Lillian Monk and son Mr. Charles E. Hoag.

The funeral services were held at the old family home Sunday afternoon at three o'clock, conducted by Rev. Sanford of the Presbyterian church. Many were the friends and neighbors who gathered to show their last tribute of respect to one whom in life one might deem it an honor to call a friend. She was a woman who made friends easily and having once gained a friendship never lost it. She leaves one son, one daughter, other relatives and many friends to mourn her loss.

The entire community sympathize with the relatives in their sorrow.
