Jens Hanson of Story City committed suicide by hanging early Sunday morning. Mr. Hanson was an old man, 83 years of age, and had been a cripple for many years. With the aid of his canes he had hobbled to a coal shed near the house and hung himself by a rope fastened to the rafters. He was found hanging by an aged sister who lived with him.

Story City Herald: The people of this vicinity were shocked and greatly surprised Sunday morning when informed that Jens Hanson, an old man 83 years of aage who lived just south of the Iowa Central depot, had ended his life by hanging himself early this morning. No direct cause for the rash act can be given although it is thought that mental derangements brought about by old age and personal matters had largely to do with it....
